Curtain Lining Fabric

Curtain lining fabric is essential to preserve the longevity of your curtain fabric and also the draping quality of your curtains.
Curtain lining is usually cotton or a cotton/polyester mix with the benefit of various finishes and weights.
Lining curtains with the right curtain lining fabric will give your curtains much more depth and ensure they drape beautifully. The right curtain lining also makes it easier to dress your curtains and thereafter, to hold their style.
Curtain lining fabric also provides a barrier between your curtain fabric and the window, protecting the fabric from sunlight and, to an extent, even condensation or draughts, although the addition of suitable interlining will greatly enhance these benefits.
Curtain lining fabrics include:
- Cotton Sateen : Probably the most popular curtain fabric lining, cotton sateen has a good density and is available in various weights. Cotton Sateen lining has a sheen on the right side of the fabric and often has additonal finishes applied, such as crease resistance or fire resistance.
- Solprufe Lining : Solprufe is a registered technical process relating to the dying of the curtain lining to produce a superior finish in terms of colour fastness, crease resistance and fullness of the fabric.
- Poly Cotton Lining : A cheap curtain lining, compared to Cotton Sateen, and usually fairly light-weight. The polyester brings easy care properties in that it has a certain resistance to creasing and shrinkage. Poly cotton curtain lining is usually available as a plain or twill weave or a sateen
- Blackout Lining : Blackout lining is perfect to block out light, particularly useful in the nursery, for children or nightworkers. Blackout lining is usually double, or triple coated fabric (often referred to as 2 pass or 3 pass) which often has the benefit of a flame retardent treatment too.
- Thermal Lining : Thermal lining is a curtain lining which has been treated with a special coating to prevent draughts from passing through it and, hence, provides a certain amount of insulation.
Always CUT your lining fabric - NEVER be tempted to tear it
