Silk Curtain Fabric

Silk curtain fabric is a good choice for luxurious curtains as it drapes beautifully and is actually quite hard-wearing. Silk is a natural fabric spun from the cocoons of silkworms but is often mixed with other fibres, such as wool, cotton or viscose.
Silk is often used to create woven fabrics, such as brocade fabric or damask fabric, to stunning effect.
From the traditional to the exquisite, silk brocade and silk damask are ideal for use in upholstery and formal curtain headings.
Silk fabrics suitable for curtains include:
- Organza : a transparent, fairly stiff silk ideal for romanticising a bedroom
- Silk Rep : has a slightly corded/ribbed effect running horizontally and particularly suits formal curtain styles
- Taffeta : has a plain weave and subtle sheen. It looks most luxurious when interlined and used abundantly in long curtains
- Dupion : Dupion silk is a popular silk fabric with an uneven weave and 'slubs' giving it a natural look and texture
Pure silk curtains should always be lined and preferably interlined
as sunlight will fade the colour and can even rot the fabric
Below you will find end of roll bargains, remnants and odd lengths of silk curtain fabric, currently available on Ebay from UK Sellers.
